South America 2023
Away we go!
Back in the day you could find out if someone was positive by asking them if their glass was half full or half empty. Nowadays, by some miracle of science, you can simply buy a kit of plastic stuff, including a stick to ram up your nose, that can confirm your positivity within 15 minutes!
The other thing that seems to have changed with time is that being positive is no longer a good thing. Nowadays being positive is a bad thing. It connotes something nasty to be avoided. Being negative though means that you are a safe bet and can get on with your life without hinderance.
Oh my! the meaning of words is all so confusing in this non binary age of man!
Anyway, after what felt like an eternity of being positive, the wannabe intrepid explorers have finally tested negative and armed with a ‘Recovery Certificate’ from being positive, we can now be positive again about going away.
Our long planned trip to the bottom of the world is now in its third incarnation after two years of Covid postponement but we are hours away from boarding so surely this time surely! Surely?
Our adventure is split into two distinct parts:
We fly from Heathrow to Buenos Aires at 21:30 today, the 10th January for a two night stay before heading to Ushuaia for the start of the Hurtigruten cruise across Drake’s Passage to the polar desert of Antarctica.
Returning to port in Ushuaia eighteen days later, we pick up a 4 x 4 for a 4 week tour through Patagonia and on the Carretera Austral with its ‘thick forests, fjords and glaciers’ (thanks Wiki)
As short flight back to Buenos Aires before returning home on the 27th February.
Hasta pronto
